What is a Certified Lay Minister?

A Certified Lay Minister has gone through classes by the Presbytery to be certified. They are hired by the Session, the role and job description is to give support to the congregation, to preach on Sundays and other stated services, call on the sick and homebound, give support to the dying, offer communion and baptisms, moderate session meetings and congregational meetings and other jobs that cannot be done by a regular lay person in the congregation.

9:00am Praise & Worship Service in our  Chapel  year round

Our Praise & Worship Service is a time set aside, dedicated to giving thanks, praising and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ. Though we don't use light shows and fog machines,  our Chapel is full of the Father of Light and the Holy Spirit. We do not approach this time as an experience to be gained for ourselves, but as a time to give of ourselves, fully present and engaged in worshiping our Lord. Our praise & worship band, Refiners Fire, leads worship utilizing a wide timeline of contemporary style Christian music. Children are welcome and all are encouraged to come to this joy filled service as we join in singing and worshiping our Lord together.

10:30am Worship Service in our Sanctuary (October though May)
Come and worship our Lord during this more traditional service as we sing time honored hymns lead by our choir. The focus is on our personal relationship with Jesus as we listen to the word of the Lord. This service features communion on the first Sunday of every month.  Our nursery is available and staffed with awesome, caring (and screened) volunteers, for your Sunday morning childcare needs. Sunday school is available for grades 1st through 4th.  Please have your children come with you into the Sanctuary.  They will be escorted to their classroom by their teacher midway through service.
10:30 Traditional Worship Service in our Chapel (June though September)

During the summer, our choir may be taking a break but we continue to worship with a joyful noise.  This worship service is more traditional as always, but during the summertime, expect to worship using a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary Christian music.  Leading in worship during the July will be the our praise & worship band. During June, August, and September expect our talented pianist to lead along with soloists and ensemble groups.

Nursery (infants through Kindergarten) and Sunday School (1st-4th grade) will be offered throughout the summer months at the 10:30 service.  Infants through Kindergarten will be welcomed from 10:15 in our Preschool room (on right in hall before the Chapel) for Nursery care. Children
1st-4th are dismissed from worship to their teacher during the offertory.

Chancel Choir
What IS that heavenly sound? Could it be angels? It could be (you never know!), but it's probably the First Pres Chancel Choir.  We lead the congregation in classic hymns and traditional responses at the 10:30 service. We sing during special services such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Easter. Practice is held every Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00, September through May and are always looking for musically minded individuals to blend with us in an outstanding way!

Refiners Fire - Praise and Worship Band

We lead the 9:00 Praise and Worship service and ready hearts to worship Jesus, our Lord and Savior during preludes to the 10:30 service.

We try to meet for rehearsal every Monday at 6:30 pm. We also rehearse for that day's 9:00am service every Sunday at 8:15am.

We are currently undergoing a time of change and rebirth in our band. If you have ever felt a calling to join in the leading of worship, you may be just what we are missing (special call out to those who are called to lead behind keys)!

Please stay after the 9:00 service and talk with us - we'll be glad to answer any of your questions, pray with you and set up a time to meet with our music ministry leaders to audition.

Bell Choir
Ring out in joyful noise for Jesus!!  We play at the 10:30am  service on the third Sunday of every other month beginning in October.  In addition we perform a Christmas Special in December, once at the Bensalem Visitors Center and again right here at First Presbyterian Church of Levittown.  Our practices are held Tuesday evenings 7:30 to 9:00. If God is calling you to Music Ministry, but you don't know where you fit in, try our Bell Choir. You don't have to have classical instrumental training, just a love for music and a desire to bring glory to God.

(The bell choir is on temporary hiatus, however if you are interested in this ministry  please do not hesitate to contact the church office)

We welcome Pastor Ruby Davis as our Certified Lay Minister!

We are grateful for the faithfulness that Ruby has served our church. She has reached out to many of our church family during this gap, praying with people and staying after church to get to know our members. We are pleased to inform the Congregation that Ruby Davis agreed to accept our offer to be our "Certified Lay Minister". The Philadelphia Presbytery has approved this contract. Her start date is today, December 5, 2021.

Our relationship with Ruby has changed from a Pulpit Supply Coverage to now First Presbyterian Church of Levittown's Certified Lay Minister. She will be our pastor until our Senior Pastor is installed. Ruby has graciously agreed to bless us by serving as our pastor until the search for our full time pastor has been completed.
