We believe in a loving and merciful God who came to this earth in the form of Jesus of Nazareth, lived a sinless life, suffered and died on the cross to atone for our sins, and then rose again from the dead so that we might live with Him forever. This same Jesus will also be coming back again to judge the unrepentant and establish His kingdom with a new heaven and a new earth.
We believe that all who truly believe in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior are offered the gift of the Holy Spirit, who will empower them for the ministries to which they are called, lead them to find healing for all of their brokenness, and guide them each and every day on an exciting journey of growing closer to Jesus.
we believe that our founding fathers in the faith, (John Knox and John Calvin) were correct in teaching that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the only reliable and divinely inspired source for all that we are to do, be and believe.
We believe that these founding fathers laid a firm foundation for our fellowship with the Biblical system of Elders, Deacons and congregational participation in the governance of the Church.
While we are not always proud or pleased with the stands taken by our denomination, PC USA, we are committed to the Reformed Theology spelled out for us in our Confessions of Faith and to our form of government which acknowledges the responsibility of every believer for spiritual growth, providing for those in need, and following the leading of the Holy Spirit in every aspect of life.
“Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be instructed and led by those confessions as you lead the people of God?” (Book of Order, G-14.0405b)
Is, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the uniquely inspired word of God and is the ultimate authority for all that we will believe, teach, do, and be.
There is one true living God who has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
OUR FALLEN NATURE
We were created by God in God’s own image to love and serve Him and to be good stewards of His perfect creation. We were, in the beginning, righteous and holy and living in unbroken fellowship with God. But in and with our forebears we sinned and rebelled against God. Now we live in a state of brokenness and corruption and we cannot redeem ourselves.
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. In the person of Jesus of Nazareth, and only in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the eternal Son of God entered human history to live, die and rise again from the dead so that we might be forgiven, healed, made whole and live forever with Him.
** It is only through the death of Jesus on the cross that we are forgiven.
** Salvation is a gift of God and not something we can earn or merit.
WE ARE CHOSEN TO BE SAVED IN ORDER TO SERVE GOD
God, in grace, chooses to save us. We aren’t saved by our will or our initiative, nor is it an accident or fate. We aren’t redeemed for our own pleasure or satisfaction. We are redeemed to that we can build up God’s kingdom and magnify His holy name.
WE ARE PART OF A COVENANT COMMUNITY AND CALLED TO A COVENANT LIFE
The ties that bind us together are not to be taken lightly, nor should they be easily broken. The church should be the model of community for the whole world to follow. We are called to set the examples of loyalty, devotion and family love. We are to be modeling conflict resolution and reconciliation.
There are only two sacred and symbolic actions, which enact and display the promises of the gospel.
Communion – The sharing of bread and wine as a sign and seal of our ongoing communion with the living Christ and of His life continuing to nourish us. Can be celebrated as often as every Lord’s Day
Baptism – The sign and seal of our incorporation into Christ and the washing away of our sin through His sacrificial death on the cross.Enacted once in a lifetime
SANCTIFICATION AND THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit connects us to the life of Christ and releases in us the supernatural and saving power of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and glory.
PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS
There are no spectators in the Church of Jesus Christ. All are called to be active participants in His reconciling and redeeming ministry to the world.
MISSION OF THE CHURCH
We exist to proclaim the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ and to share His care for His children with a world in need.
It all belongs to God and we are His caretakers. He expects us to use the good gifts He has given us to feed the hungry, house the homeless, heal the sick, care for those in need and offer any other needed and helpful tangible expressions of His love for all His children.
